Chuck Gifford was hired to start and develop the Aviation program at Cypress (Junior) College in 1967, the second year of Cypress College. Chuck came to Cypress having taught in the Aviation program at Mt. San Antonio College. He has a BA in Industrial Arts from CSULA and earned a MA in Industrial Education while completing the Aviation program at San Jose State University. He is a Commercial Pilot in single engine airplanes, multi-engine airplanes and gliders, is instrument rated and is a flight instructor for single engine airplanes and gliders. He also holds FAA certification for Advanced and Instrument Ground Instruction as well as Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic. He spent several years in ticketing and passenger service for Trans World Airlines. Chuck has been an active member of the Cypress College Aviation Advisory Committee since 1967 and was a founding member of Cypress Soaring, Inc. a glider club started in 1969. After retirement from full time teaching in 2003, he has remained with Cypress College as an adjunct faculty member and Professional Expert.
