Mark Blanes started teaching at Cypress College in 2014. Just like his fellow colleague Jeff Co, Mark began his airline career as a customer service crew member for JetBlue Airways in Long Beach, CA. While at JetBlue, Mark was presented with the opportunity to cross train with various departments within the airline. He soon became the Station Training Liaison for Customer Service, Ramp, and Provisioning. It was here that Mark discovered his passion for teaching. Wanting to pursue his desire to teach in an aviation setting, Mark accepted a position with Southwest Airlines, LAX. Currently, he holds the position of Station Training Supervisor, where he oversees the initial, recurrent, and Federal instruction for over 200+ Ground Operation employees. Mark also serves as a point of reference for local Leadership regarding company and Federal procedures and policies. When Mark is not teaching, you may find him out on the Pacific Ocean paddling his outrigger canoe or coaching at his local canoe club where he serves not only as a coach but a mentor as well. A proud graduate of California State University, Long Beach (BA) and the University of San Francisco (MA), Mark challenges his students to “Strive to be better today than they were yesterday!” Mark has served on the Cypress College Advisory Committee since 2013.
